The Social Purchasing Portal (SPP) offers businesses an easy way to add social value to their existing purchases. In addition to getting price, quality and service when buying goods and services, the SPP Supplier Partners, all of whom have demonstrated their commitment to supporting the livelihoods of their employees, gives you the opportunity to make a positive and direct contribution to your community.
There is no cost to participate, and you are not obligated to use the SPP exclusively. In order to become a SPP Purchaser Partner, all you do is commit to considering SPP Suppliers by using this website and to suggest other businesses as potential SPP Suppliers.
SPP Suppliers have achieved at least a rating of 'OK!' in at least 3 out of the 5 Assets in supporting the livelihoods of their employees. This allows the working poor in Calgary to begin the process of building a sustainable livelihood.

Benefits of joining the Social Purchasing Portal as a Purchaser:
- Recognition on the portal as a SPP Purchaser Partner for a duration of 12 months.
- Receive referrals from companies you could potentially purchase from.
- Participation in networking and knowledge sharing sessions between portal partners.
- Monthly SPP newsletter containing updates, relevant news about business and corporate social responsibility.
- Announcements to the local media about your involvement with SPP.
- Receive SPP promotional materials recognizing your business as a SPP partner.
Responsibilities as a Purchaser Partner
- Completing the quarterly email survey distributed to all purchasers asking for information on any purchases made with other SPP Supplier Partners.
Eligibility
We are targeting all for-profit or non-profit businesses/organizations in any sector.
Application Process
You will be required to fill in a statement of commitment and some detail related to product and service categories you make purchases from. Go to our online form here or download the application document here. You will be able to submit it via our website, email or fax.
Application Deadline
We accept Purchaser applications at any time and can add your business to our SPP Purchaser list within a 7-day period.
